I turned this bowl from a piece of still-green ash, and it lilted nicely along the rim as it dried. I then textured the outside with short gouge strokes, dyed the entire bowl deep red, and painted the rim with gold leaf. The bottom is rounded with no foot; the result is a stable table bowl that is also a comfortable lap bowl. Ash is a dense wood and this bowl has a heavy, solid feel- almost like clay pottery.
